Odoo MRP
The MRP: bills of materials, manufacturing orders and actual cost price, work centre by work centre.
The bill of materials says what goes into a product and which operations it goes through. The shop floor enters its times and quantities on a tablet; when the order is done, Odoo computes the real cost.
What the Manufacturing (MRP) app does.
Multi-level (sub-assemblies), lines per variant, kits, by-products; operations with their duration.
Capacity, time efficiency, setup and cleanup times, cost per hour, working hours, alternative work centers.
Created by a sales order (MTO), a reordering rule or from the master schedule; backorders, split and merge.
On-screen instructions, timer, quantities, scrap, quality alert and maintenance request (Shop Floor).
Forecasted demand by week or month, indirect demand for components, suggested replenishment (MPS).
Components consumed, plus each operation's time × work center and employee hourly cost; planned and real cost side by side.
Lots or serial numbers of components and finished product, recorded on the order.
Subcontracting with components resupplied; unbuild orders from a product into components.

Production reports.
Planned and real cost of the order, line by line, components and operations (Overview).
Cost per unit, employee cost, by-product cost, by product and period (Production Analysis).
Fully productive time of each work center, with losses: speed, material availability, breakdowns (OEE).
Difference with the bill of materials blocked, allowed or allowed with warning (Flexible Consumption).

A complete ecosystem: the MRP and every app that feeds it
The arrows follow the data: from purchasing to stock, from stock and the shop floor to the manufacturing order, then on to finished goods, accounting and dashboards.
Materials
Requests for quotation, supplier orders in foreign currency, blanket orders, automatic replenishment.
Quantities against the order, lots and dates, quality check on arrival, failure location if the check fails.
Materials and packaging by location, valued; the components of each manufacturing order are reserved.
Manufacturing (MRP)
The heart of the plant
- Multi-level bills of materials, variants, by-products
- Manufacturing orders and work orders by work centre
- Shop floor on tablets: instructions, times, quantities, scrap
- Master production schedule (MPS) and component needs
- Subcontracting and unbuild
- Actual cost price: materials, machine time, labour
The shop floor
Capacity, time efficiency, hourly cost, working hours: each operation is planned on its work center.
Preventive work blocks the work centre in the schedule; a breakdown is reported from the work order.
Control points inside operations: measure, photo, pass or fail, linked to the lot.
A new bill of materials version, approved, then applied as soon as possible or at a date.
What manufacturing feeds
Finished goods by lot, delivered to the customer: you know which material lot went to whom.
Stock value up to date, production cost, entries at invoicing and at closing.
Cost price, material yield, OEE, scrap and breakdowns, read every morning.
Serial numbers, warranties, replaced parts and repair quotations, from the same stock.

Fictitious example: a 10-tonne batch, bagged in 200 bags of 50 kg, on three work centres.

The settings that matter.
Without it, the real cost only counts materials: that is where machine, energy and labour go.
10,180 kg used for 10,000 planned: entered on the order, the 1.8% gap shows at once.
Components taken straight from stock, or picked and brought to the shop floor, finished goods stored afterwards.
With PLM, a new bill of materials is approved before it applies; history is kept.
